The Lent Course

Encountering Jesus Through

WORSHIP

The 2026 St Andrew's Lent Course has a special focus on worship, and is designed to be relevant and accessible across our different congregations. It will trace a journey starting with Jesus' Incarnation, through the wilderness temptations, before focusing in on the events of Holy Week, followed by a glimpse ahead to the glorious worship that awaits us in heaven. Enroute we will examine the way different people encountered Jesus in worship, entering into their joys and sorrows, successes and failures, and applying this to our own worship experience both gathered and in solitude.

Each evening will start with light refreshments (coffee/tea/biscuits/cake). Our opening worship will be followed by a talk and discussion, concluding again with worship, providing an opportunity to put into practice what we have learnt through a range of worship expressions. All welcome; come and be informed, challenged and inspired as together we encounter Jesus afresh on our worship journey.

Join us on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm

Week 1 : 25th February
Incarnation | Led by Rick Jensen with Roger Peach

Come join in an evening where we discuss the interaction between our heart and our feet in worship. In our lives, we regularly set our hearts on something – and whatever we set our hearts on, our feet will follow. So our hearts tell us where we are headed – what journey are we on? Are we drawing near to God? Or are we moving away? Reflecting on what our hearts dwell on will help us understand our journey.

Rick is a worship leader, songwriter, and musician and has been active in worship and music ministries since 1995 in places as varied as Nashville, Seattle, and Oxford. He has a particular interest in how all of worship shapes our hearts and minds, and how that drives our faith.

Week 2 : 4th March
In the Wilderness | Led by Jill Horner with Rob Horner

As we go through life, we will all experience times of wilderness.  The second evening of our Lent course aims to help us consider what it means to worship in the wilderness. The evening is designed to lead us in lament as we hear input from the front, interspersed with discussion and sung worship.  Heavy or happy hearts are all welcome, as we support one another in sitting in lament and finding hope in worshipping in the wilderness.

Week 3 : 11th March
Celebration | Led by Roger Peach with Cait Franklin

Gathering to sing has always been an integral part of Christian worship. How can we all sing together joyfully and wholeheartedly with our voices, hearts, minds and bodies? How can we worship with passion and purity? Why is a variety of styles and approaches important? Talk, practical ideas, discussion and worship together.

Week 4 : 18th March
Journey to the Cross | Led by Joel Payne

Week 5 : 25th March
Looking to Glory | Led by Tim Wyatt with Roger Peach

Our journey ends after the resurrection, when all of Jesus's followers will join him in God's eternal kingdom of praise and glory. For our last session, we will explore the wonderful glimpses of this never-ending worship we get in the book of Revelation, and think about what this might mean for our worship today, as we wait for Jesus's return to bring us home. Every tribe and tongue will gather around the throne to joyfully and exuberantly worship the Lamb who was slain for eternity in the new creation; so what should our worship here and now look like as we anticipate this glorious future?
